Meet Kristin Mountcastle

Founder of Growing Our Girls

Hi, I’m Kristin Mountcastle, founder of Growing Our Girls (GOG), a Charlotte-based community for moms and daughters learning (and re-learning) how to grow together.

The seed for GOG was planted back in 2015, somewhere between nap schedules and snack time. I was deep in diapers, juggling sippy cups and big dreams, imagining a space where girls could grow into confident, grounded young women.

Years later, in 2023, with all three of my girls finally in school and life a little calmer, I revisited that dream. I began hosting focus groups with moms of girls spanning every age, from toddlers to college, and heard the same truth over and over:

“We want our daughters to feel empowered… but we’re tired, unsure, and sometimes a little lost ourselves.”

That’s when Growing Our Girls truly came to life. Not just for the girls, but for the women raising them too.

The GOG Vision

Before GOG, I spent my career in Human Resources and leadership development, studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology at NC State and the University of Georgia. I worked in corporate HR consulting, helping leaders build stronger cultures and more intentional teams.

Now, I use that same foundation to help moms build connection and confidence at home — because leadership truly starts there.

What began as a dream to empower girls has grown into something much bigger — a collective of moms, mentors, and women all pouring into the next generation together.

We’ve learned that the work we do with girls is only as powerful as the continued messages they hear at home. That’s why our mission includes creating space for women to feel cared for, seen, and supported in doing their own inner work.

Through partnerships with local businesses, clinicians, and community leaders throughout Charlotte, we’re building something that’s both grounded and growing.

As a mom of three teen and tween daughters, my hope is that Growing Our Girls continues to grow into the movement we’ve begun to see. We will always strive to be the trusted platform and gathering place for women and girls in Charlotte (and eventually beyond) to feel nurtured, connected, and a little less alone in the wild, wonderful work of growing up together.
